Vortex Optics RAZOR AMG UH-1 Holographic Sight

Vortex Optics RAZOR AMG UH-1 Holographic Sight

It appears that Vortex Optics now has Eotech in their sights with the announcement of the Vortex Optics RAZOR AMG UH-1 Holographic Sight. The timing could not be better given Eotech’s latest troubles with the admission of cold weather distortion, reticle fade, thermal drift and parallax issues.

Introducing the Vortex Optics RAZOR AMG UH-1 Holographic Sight.

Vortex Optics RAZOR AMG UH-1 Holographic Sight

Vortex Optics Razor AMG UH-1

The Vortex Optics RAZOR AMG UH-1 Holographic Sight affectionately known in-house as “Huey.”  The UH-1 is a completely new force in weapon mounted holographic technology, and you’re one of the first shooters to see it! Inside the durable aluminum chassis the UH-1 features fewer moving parts compared to traditional holographic sights. This equates to maximum durability. The holographic sight is powered with the included CR123A battery. the weapon sight also has the option of running LFP CR123A batteries. LFP CR123A batteries can be recharged using the on-board, waterproof micro-USB port.

We believe the shooter is the only one who should see the new Vortex EBR-CQB reticle so we engineered the entire system to virtually eliminate all traces of forward signature, unlike any other red dot or holographic sight on the market.

Aimpoint manufactures a great family of micro red dot scopes. These micro dot scopes are the T1/H1 models. The Aimpoint red dot scopes are quite popular with AR shooters and for good reason. Aimpoint micro series sights are rugged, reliable and have exceptional battery life. Also in typical Aimpoint fashion these AR red dot scopes quite expensive. The cost unfortunately prevents many shooters from owning the Aimpoint’s. Not every shooter needs or can afford a battle worthy weapon sight. Fortunately some scope manufacturers and AR parts vendors recognized a niche.  The result is an industry of inexpensive Asian Aimpoint knock-offs. Typically a person could purchase four Aimpoint H1/T1 knock-offs for the price of a single authentic Aimpoint.

All of the Aimpoint T1/H1 knockoffs are not created equal. One of the best brands is Primary Arms and their Micro Dot scope. The PA micro dot is compatible with the same mounting system as the T1/H1 Aimpoint.

Primary Arms best-selling red dot model, the Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot MD-ADS features up to 50,000 hours of battery life from the included CR2032 battery and an ultra-sharp 2 MOA dot. Top mounted push buttons adjust the 12 brightness settings from night vision compatible to daylight bright. This tough optic is waterproof, with a 3-year warranty. The included 1913 Picatinny base is removable and the scope body is compatible with any industry standard Micro mount system. Rubber “bikini” lens cover included.

Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot MD-ADS features improved waterproofing! Chemical resistant Buna-N (nitrile) O-rings protect the battery compartment from water entry. Tested to a depth of 2 meters for over 72 hours!

VORTEX SPITFIRE AR PRISM SCOPE Q&A

Question: Will it always default to ‘off’ after 12 hours?  I would like to leave mine on but on a low setting. Changing the battery out twice a year wouldn’t be a big deal. Answer: The VORTEX SPITFIRE AR will drop to a middle setting first before eventually auto-powering off. All you need to do is press the “up” arrow on the digital rear-facing controls and it will illuminate back to life after being off. The nice thing of course is that when the illumination is off, you have an etched reticle with the Spitfire AR that means you will still have a point of aim (black reticle) just like a normal riflescope.

Question: I understand the Spitfire AR has the ability to 1/3 co-witness. Is it possible to co-witness with this scope, and why would you want to being that it features an etched reticle that is always visible? Also will my A2 front site work on this scope? Answer: The Vortex Spitfire AR and regular Spitfire will not co-witness with any iron sights. The prismatic nature of the sight, being an actual optical system rather than a pass-through red dot means that it is very unlikely your Spitfire will line up in a true absolute/lower 1/3 co-witness. As you mentioned – the reticle is always visible, so this isn’t necessary. It will work with the A2 front sight – just shoot off the reticle in the prism scope and don’t pay any mind to the front post sight that will be visible through the scope. I have a Spitfire 1x on my AR with an A2 front post sight and the front post sight doesn’t bother me or get in the way at all. Hope this helps!

VORTEX SPARC AR VERSUS VORTEX SPARC II

SPARC AR – runs on easily accessible AAA batteries int he integrated base and features a very snag-free design with ramped features that keep any knobs or dials from catching on things during operation.

SPARC II – The advantage here is that the SPARC II does not have an integrated base, SPARC AR is shorter and uses a sleeve/lens cover system for lens protection which is more of a personal preference item.

Other than those differences, the two are very similar internally and extremely rugged and durable.

VORTEX SPARK AR VERSUS VORTEX SPITFIRE

The SPARC AR is a standard red dot sight that can be co-witnessed with iron sights and used in conjunction with a magnifier. The Spitfire 1x is a prismatic sight that cannot be co-witnessed or used with a magnifier, but it has an etched reticle as opposed to a reflex red dot. The etched reticle means you never lose a point of aim even if the batteries die, and you don’t have to worry about a starburst effect that is had with red dots when the user has an astigmatism.
