CMMG 9mm AR15 UPPER RECEIVER ASSEMBLY
I have been on the fence for a while trying to decide what 9mm ar15 UPPER RECIEVER ASSEMBLY to purchase. In the end I selected the CMMG 9mm AR15 UPPER RECIEVER ASSEMBLY for four reasons. The first two reasons being I could use it with my HAHN PRECISION 9mm RECEIVER BLOCK with COLT 9mm 32 ROUND MAGAZINES. The third reason is the CMMG 9mm AR15 UPPER RECIEVER ASSEMBLY utilizes a bolt carrier group modified to accept any AR15 trigger group as opposed to the competition that relies on a dedicated 9mm hammer to function correctly. The fourth an final reason is that BROWNELLS has the unit in stock.
I will be throwing out the A2 handguard in favor of a MAGPUL FOLIAGE GREEN MOE CARBINE HANDGUARD. The FLASH HIDER will be replaced with a YANKEE HILL MACHINE YHM-9853-36-A PHANTOM FLASH HIDER for a WRAITH XL QD SOUND SUPPRESSOR with a 1/2″-36 thread.
There will be updated pictures on the 9mm ar15 PROJECT page.
This complete CMMG AR-15 M4 LE Upper Assembly features a chrome-moly steel barrel with a WASP Melonite treated bore and exterior. The upper makes use of a ramped, 9mm specific bolt that enables the use of a standard AR-15 hammer (dedicated 9mm hammers are not compatible), and comes complete with a shortened ejection port/ejection port cover and large polymer brass deflector. Upper must be installed on a lower receiver compatible with, or modified to accept, Colt-Style 9mm Luger box magazines.
CMMG’s durable Weapons Armament Surface Protection (WASP) Melonite treatment is a unique protective coating applied to the barrel that surface-hardens the metal, extending barrel service life by reducing friction in the bore and lessening bore surface wear. Also referred to as Nitriding, this treatment produces an extremely hard, slick surface on steel that resists carbon adhesion and increases corrosion resistance, making for easier cleaning and maintenance. Nitriding converts the steel’s surface without any build-up, retaining all the benefits of traditional chrome lining without suffering from the accuracy degradation commonly encountered due to uneven application of chrome inside the barrel’s bore.

PREBAN LOWER RECEIVER 9MM AR15
This 9MM AR15 project ended up with a PREBAN PWA COMMANDO STRIPPED LOWER RECEIVER. If I lived in a state without an AWB I would be using one of the SPIKES TACTICAL LOWER RECEIVERS I already have on hand for about 1/6 of the cost.
MAGPUL FOLIAGE GREEN CTR BUTTSTOCK 9MM AR15
I have come to appreciate the Magpul CTR Buttstock for it’s performance, quality, light weight and value. I feel it is a perfect for my 9MM AR15 project.
MAGPUL FOLIAGE GREEN MOE HANDGUARD 9MM AR15
The CMMG 9mm AR15 upper ships with A2 styled handguards. The Magpul MOE Handguard is a refreshing change. It’s my opinion that a free float handguard would be over kill on this project.
MAGPUL FOLIAGE GREEN MOE PISTOL GRIP 9MM AR15
Magpul MOE Pistol Grip and the Magpul MOE Plus Pistol Grip probably seem a bit repetitive to visitors of my sites but the short of it is they work and they work well. The ability to accept the Samson Field Survivor is a bonus
COLT 9mm 32 ROUND MAGAZINES SP62980 9MM AR15
There are a few COLT 9MM 32 ROUND MAGAZINE SP62980 choices for unfortunately COLT the most expensive, seems to be the most reliable. I was quite surprised that Brownells has stock. So far to date all the magazines I have purchased were manufactured in the 1990’s. The Metalform 9mm magazines review well but they are unknown to me.
YANKEE HILL MACHINE YHM-9853-36-A PHANTOM FLASH HIDER for WRAITH XL QD SOUND SUPPRESSOR with 1/2″-36 thread 9MM AR15
I selected the YANKEE HILL MACHINE YHM-9853-36-A PHANTOM FLASH HIDER for WRAITH XL QD SOUND SUPPRESSOR with 1/2″-36 thread as it is the most readily available to me 9mm subgun SOUND SUPPRESSOR (SILENCER).
GEISSELE SSA-E TRIGGER
Keeping with my goal of owning every available type of AR15 trigger this time around I selected the Geissele SSA-E Trigger (Note the image below is the SSA and not SSA-E). Here is the description:
Super Semi-Automatic-Enhanced (SSA-E) offers a light, 3½ lb. total pull weight, making it an excellent choice for precision Squad Designated Marksman type rifles where both accuracy and reliability are critical. First stage builds gradually to 2.3 lbs., followed by a 1.2 lb. second stage with a crisp, “candy cane-like” break. A semi-auto-only version of the Geissele full-auto combat trigger presently used in the U.S. Special Operations community.
BATTLE ARMS DEVELOPMENT BAD C.A.S.S COMBAT AMBIDEXTROUS SAFETY SELECTOR
In recent years I have become a huge proponent of the Battle Arms Development Ambidextrous Safety Selector or BAD A.S.S as it is known. It is or should I say “was” the only safety selector I would specify on my ar15 rifles. The reason I now say “was” is that Battle Arms Development has improved their design with a model named “C.A.S.S” or Combat Ambidextrous Safety Selector” The C.A.S.S features a dovetail design for attaching the safety selector levers instead of a square keyway.
MAGPUL MBUS GEN 2 MAG248FOL REAR SIGHT
This is an economical color matched solution. BUIS will be my primary sight while I test various optics to see what best suits this platform.
OPTIC – TBD
For now Im just going to run this rifle with BUIS while I test various optics on it.
