I have been purchasing and shooting AR15 MAGAZINES since around 1992 and have had my share of junk in that time frame. Fortunately in 2012 AR15 MAGAZINES have become quite refined if not perfected. We have improved body designs and materials, high quality springs and greatly improved followers and space age coatings. Stick with well-known name brand AR15 MAGAZINES and you should be fine.
The MAGAZINE might very well be the heart of the AR-15 operating system. Without a reliable quality magazine the weapon can become a useless tool leading to a bad day at the range or death on the battlefield. There is simply no reason not to own quality magazines.
What’s the best magazine construction material? Stainless Steel? Steel? Alumium? Polymer? or a combination of two or more of the previously mentioned materials? There is no simple answer as each material has is strengths and weaknesses. Your unique situation should dictate which you choose. A typical range gun should not see the same wear, climate and abuse as a military weapon. Hunting or shooting in 20 below zero weather would most likely rule out polymer as a choice.
What AR15 MAGAZINES do I use? As mentioned above I have been at this for a long time and as a result I have accumulated many AR15 MAGAZINES. However back in 2008 I decided that the modern magazines were greatly superior to my then current supply of aging Colt’s. I decided it was time to upgrade. Concurrently the decision was also made to standardize on 30 round magazines. That upgrade resulted in the following choices.
C PRODUCTS LLC – Now defunct or under new ownership was once a great source for reliable stainless steel magazines with anti-tilt followers. I have a lot of these and they work well in my AR15′s.

MAGPUL PMAG – I will admit given a choice I will run with stainless steel magazines followed by aluminium. That said there is no getting over the MAGPUL PMAGS. The work great and look good in the process. I probably own 10 PMAGS with and without the maglevel window in 30 round capacity.The PMAGS look great in photo’s. The PMAGS are also an inexpensive testing tool for your weapon. If your AR15 doesnt cycle properly with a PMAG the problem lies with your weapon and not the magazine.
LANCER AR15 MAGAZINES – The LANCER is a polymer steel hybrid and my favorite polymer magazine. The polymer is a little more pliable than the competition and I like the idea of the steel feed lips. I only have a few of these on hand but plan on purchasing more. I like these very much.
HK AR15 MAGAZINES – The HK’s are a magazine like no other. I once read a review where it was stated that the magazine follower felt as though at it was moving on ball bearings. That statement is accurate. These stainless steel HK AR15 MAGAZINES (SA80) are the units I rely on for the role of personal protection in my home.
